It’s hard to believe Christmas is only a month away! Here are some interesting facts about Christmas.*
- The average family spends £170 on their Christmas dinner
- We spent £115million on seasonal cakes last year
(£50.6million on mince pies alone!)
- We send 1 billion cards each year.
- The average shopper spends £384 on presents! Those
aged 35-44 spend the most - the 2007 figure was £570!
Christmas has certainly been a commercial success for the high street - but many have forgotten the real meaning. Theological think tank 'Theos' asked 1000 people 4 questions about the Christmas story. Only 12% were able to answer all four questions correctly! So with all the commercial realities of Christmas - it provides us with a great opportunity to share our faith while we celebrate the birth of our Saviour.

Do Something More at Christmas
This Christmas why not spend your money on something more worthwhile than cards and postage! After all, there is more to Christmas than cards! Instead of giving out Christmas cards to your friends in church, instead we will display a HUGE card where we can write our greetings to each other. The card will appear in the Mango tree from the start of December. Write your greeting up and donate whatever you would normally spend on the cards to the work of Viva. Viva is an organisation working to bring care and support to one million children at risk around the world.
