Greenisland Baptist Church is an independent, evangelical church with Christ as the head.
We believe in the gospel and the need for individuals to be born again by the Spirit of God, in order to be made ready for heaven. Since May 1999 we have been a member of a wider fellowship of churches known as the Association of Baptist Churches in Ireland (formerly known as the Baptist Union of Ireland). We have a complete Statement of Faith which explains in detail what we believe as a church. Below is a brief summary of the main points:
• The Bible - the inspired Word of God without any error
• God - one God in three persons, the Holy Trinity
• The Lord Jesus Christ - both fully God and fully man who was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died on Calvary's Cross as a sacrifice for sinners, was buried, rose again, ascended to heaven, lives for ever and is coming back again personally.
• The Holy Spirit - he regenerates sinners and dwells within the life of the believer
• The Devil - he has a personality as a created being, his activity is evil but his final doom is certain
• Man - people are sinners, subject to God's wrath and condemnation but with a responsibility to repent and believe the gospel
• Justification - the act by which sinners are made right with God by grace through faith
• The Church - a gathered company of believers for specific purposes (worship, fellowship, instruction and evangelism) and which practices the ordinances of believers baptism by immersion and regular observance of the Lord's Supper as an act of remembrance and commitment
• The Future State - the unconditional immortality of the soul and the eternal joy of heaven of believers and the conscious eternal punishment in hell of those who die impenitent
• Christian Behaviour - the responsibility of believers to live lives worthy of the Lord they profess
